While thousands of players have pulled NHL team sweaters over their heads, only a select few were special enough to have the letter 'C' stitched to the front of their jersey. The 'C' is hockey's version of the Superman 'S'.

The 'C' marks the man who teammates look to for inspiration during crucial moments of a game. Some captains lead by on-ice example and can carry an entire team on their back. Some have done it with words, and others with a laser-focus glare that could cut through ice.

We want you, the fans, to tell us who you think was the greatest captain in recent NHL history. A total of 32 of the greatest captains will face-off in a bracket style tournament over a six week period. Each weekly vote offers you a chance at exciting weekly prizes, as well as a chance to win a trip to the 2009 NHL All-Star Game.
